Although slightly awkward, since it was a skiing trip with my girlfriend and her dad (who kept glancing at me in the rearview mirror, slightly suspiciously) I must admit that it was a surprisingly comfortable place to spend time!

And you just want to say "What, it's not like we're going to do something right here and now!"

I spent 8 hours in the front seat of a 2012 X3 recently and it was awful after the first 2 hours. :/

hmm...
What specifically did you not like about it? was it bad lumbar support, inadequate bolstering, legroom, seat angle...?

I'm asking since an X3 is on my mom's list of "possible next cars" and I honestly don't know anything about it

They did, but this one was an automatic. At least it has the silky smooth 3.0i inline-6!

Bad lumbar, uncomfortable, lack of bolstering... seat angle is adjustable and legroom was fine but any 4/5 door car that bothers me after a couple hours gets a no in my book.

Tell her to get a Q5 instead. More capable and you get more for the money.

And put this on the Why-you-shouldn't-get-an-X3 list: Your mom would get frustratingly irritated by everyone laughing at her while she drives around, because no one, NO ONE likes the X3. You see, my mom considered it as well, and I said she should try the Q5 or even the Touareg(Even though its in a larger class)... She ended up with the Touareg.

I really like E53 X5's. Perfectly sized for an SUV.

my driver's ed instructor had one!
Then again, out of the 16 times we had class, 14 of those he came in his wife's Miata...

I'm calling it now, though, my mom's going to wind up saving about 10K-15K, and she's gonna get a forester or something...

Well, rear legroom isn't that good if I'm gonna be honest (a jetta with the seat set for a 5' 11" driver has more legroom) but other than that, it's pretty damn near perfect

If it's anything like the E46 rear seats then it must be comfy.

My '04 X5 had great front seats, okay rear seats, and broke. A lot.

I miss the car, but not the frequent trips for repairs. :-(

I had one until I traded it for the wife's babymobile. Loved it.

So in high school I went to visit this girl, whom I had met at hippie camp that summer and made out with.

When I got to her house her mom was very nice and welcoming, but she did pull me aside and sternly told me "I have just one rule: no sex"

Well, I really liked her daughter and she really liked me. So we had sex.

Later, me, my girlfriend, her sister and her mom all decided to go to the beach. I somehow ended up the first person in the car while the three of them were in the house for another minute or two. When the rest of them got into the car, my girlfriend's mom looked me in the eyes and said:

"So Felix, I hear I'm going to have to break your balls"

To which I cleverly responded "...uh...I...What?"

My girlfriend then informed me that 30 seconds ago her mom had asked if we'd had sex. Turns out she didn't lie to her mom.

And that dear friends was the most awkward car ride of my life. Not. A. Single. Word. The whole way there.

My 530i has the same interior, and the Nav screen looks like it'd be so hard to read. I don't know why, it just looks like it. Mine is almost completely vertical.

My uncle has that X3 I mentioned. At first he loved it but after a couple years he really doesn't like it at all.

And his wife, she doesn't like her TSX. Go figure. They need to run their car decisions by me next time... (The X3 replaced a Buick Rendezvous xD)
